Event: Gold Coast Project for Homeless Youth fundraising cocktail party
When: Monday, May 30
Where: Little Truffle, Mermaid Beach
The saying “it takes a village to raise a child” certainly rings true in the case of the Gold Coast Project for Homeless Youth. The not-for-profit organisation has partnered with local developer Villa World to build a second crisis care facility for homeless young people on Council land at Labrador.
While the house is powering towards its July completion date, funds are still being sought to cover the $650,000 build cost. Villa World’s subcontractors and suppliers have covered the bulk of the build cost through donations of labour and building materials, but a shortfall of about $250,000 still exists.
The GCPHY held a fundraising cocktail function at Little Truffle in Mermaid Beach, encouraging local business leaders to dig deep to support the cause. More than ten thousand dollars was raised, including donations of kitchen appliances and beds for the home.
