ON ANY GIVEN NIGHT, AROUND 3,000 PEOPLE EXPERIENCE HOMELESSNESS ON THE GOLD COAST.
BETWEEN 600 AND 700 OF THESE ARE YOUNG PEOPLE.
To help break this cycle, Villa World is working with The Gold Coast Project for Homeless Youth (GCPHY) to construct a new crisis care facility for homeless young people on the Gold Coast. It is the second home Villa World has constructed for the GCPHY, with the first being a six-bedroom facility named Jessica Dunne Lodge in 2010.
The GCPHY supports its clients with accommodation and food, case management and life skills programs. The aim is to aid young people to reintegrate into their local community to become contributing residents rather than potential burdens on the community.
The GCPHY currently operates Lawson House, a seven-bedroom crisis care facility which is the only youth crisis accommodation on the Gold Coast. From April 2014 to the end of March 2015, 152 young people have been turned away due to the house being full.
